Telling Rob
I woke up around 3:00 to the storm and didn’t really fall back asleep. Rob's alarms (yes, plural - it was an incredibly important day!) stared going off around 6:00 and I tried to lay low until he left so I didn’t
barf. While he was doing some last-minute studying, I ate some toast which helped but I was still extremely uneasy. He left after what seemed like an eternity, and I took
another test I picked up yesterday which was a different brand.
In bold print it clearly stated my status and I knew it was for real. I had some more scrambled eggs for breakfast, and decided to get ready for the day. Yep, I showered and did my hair and makeup on the weekend!
So, I kept myself busy all day again. I did all my schoolwork, cleaned the entire apartment top to bottom, and put up all of our Christmas decorations. Oh, and spent some time with my good friends Google and Pinterest. Honestly, it was the most productive day I've ever had! I'm hopeful this baby will give me this Energizer bunny attitude for the next 8ish months. Let's hope for the power of wishful thinking...
Also during the day, I made a trip to Wal-Mart to pick up an empty bracelet box. It was a much more difficult endeavor than I anticipated (as are most of my Wal-Mart experiences) but after finally getting home I wrapped the positive test in it. J I couldn't wait for him to get home and finally spill the beans!
Rob was supposed to be done with his boards by about 2:30 and I texted him at 2:45 asking “done?” but he didn’t respond. What felt like days later he finally walked through the door and he was surprised to find the apartment was totally spotless and in full Christmas mode. We talked about boards for an eternity then I finally said, "Did you notice your present under the tree?" I told him to open it right now but since we had agreed not to get each other gifts he refused to open it. I got up, turned off the TV, handed it to him, and sat right next to him on the couch. His reaction was priceless! When he first opened it the test was upside down and for a split-second he though it was a marker or something. When I turned it around and he finally processed what it was (it had been a long, intellectual day for him) he said, “Is this real?” I nodded and we hugged for a while. Then he repeated, “Seriously, is this real?” Adorable!
He thought he was in for a nice, relaxing evening and that was definitely not going to happen. I filled him in on everything I knew and we decided we should get out for a little while. We headed to Barnes and Noble where I read the first 1 ½ chapters of What to Expect When you’re Expecting and he failed miserably at focusing on anything. Then we strolled through the mall looking like a couple of zombies* until we decided I was starving and we should head home to have dinner. First, we stopped at Target for some prenatal vitamins and I was thankful that Rob is so knowledgeable about medical stuff. We came home for some tacos and plenty more conversation which shouldn't be a surprise as there's little quiet time between the two of us. Before we went to bed we tried to take a few profile pictures but they didn’t turn out very well.
*The next day one of my students said she thought she saw me at the mall with my husband but determined it probably wasn't me because I didn't wave back when she greeted me. Like I said - zombies.

First reactions
I woke
up around 5:00 which is only slightly earlier than normal for a Saturday and while laying in bed I was thinking about the sneaking suspicion that had been on my mind the past few days or so. I wasn't particularly convinced I was, in fact, pregnant but I decided to take an HPT (home pregnancy test) ASAP and put my mind at ease so I could relax for the weekend. As I was brushing my teeth, I didn't think much about it then I glanced down and saw two lines - one more faint than the other. I tore the box apart looking for the instructions until I read a line (bolded and underlined) that said “one line may appear darker
than the other”. WHOA.
I went out to the couch where I did some googling of positive result images confirming the news then it dawned on me: I could NOT tell Rob when he woke up. There are very few times in life where I appreciate being awake hours before my husband, but this was one time I could be thankful. He was in the middle of his board exams and under an incredible amount of stress. Friday's tests went well but he was planning on spending the whole day rotating between studying and relaxing (aka college football). Telling him this life-changing news did not fall under either category and it certainly wouldn't help him focus on tomorrow's final round of tests. I checked some papers for school and had some scrambled eggs before he woke up. It was absolutely impossible to keep the secret! I don't keep anything from him, although he would probably prefer I do sometimes. :)
I felt like I was acting weird all day and being super obvious but Rob was so focused on boards that he didn’t notice. (i.e. refusing to eat a turkey sandwich for lunch) I went for a jog
mid-afternoon which turned into me sitting on a park bench googling like a crazy woman. Later I headed out to do some errands got groceries just to get out of the apartment for a while longer. On my way to Target I was a completely distracted driver and almost got in an accident by turning in front of someone. I also saw a deer run across the intersection at 127 & Pflumm. Talk about a couple of quick wake-up calls! I was gone for quite a while but it worked out for the best because Rob actually got some studying done in a quiet apartment.
I was feeling a little nauseous all day but the nerves must have had something to do with that because I hadn't noticed a thing until today. Anyway, I kept myself busy all day and didn’t go to be until around 10:00 which is incredibly rare for me!

Here we go ... !
Yep, I'm blogging. With my words out in the blogosphere. Bloggedy, bloggedy, blog. I guess I've been in this boat before and suddenly I'm recalling exactly how challenging it is to begin this endeavor. Well, I'll just say that I thoroughly enjoy reading the blogs that I check embarrassingly often and I hope that you'll be as interested in the things I have to say. Right now there's nothing riveting to post about - mostly mundane day-to-day happenings, buuut... only until July!
Our lives are about to go into a full-blown tailspin in so many ways. We're a little bit terrified, a lotta bit anxious, and so totally, incredibly excited. So if you're up for joining us on this wild 'n crazy ride, I'll do my best to keep you posted right here!
